One of Coastal Mississippi’s most anxiously awaited restaurants, Siren Social Club, is singing a sultry song, beckoning you to put your name on its reservation books.
Culinary Entrepreneur Chef Austin Sumrall and his wife Tresse are the brains behind this restaurant and bar enchantment that features a private, eight-seat dining room and a secluded outdoor patio. Opened late last year on the ground floor of the historic and sophisticated Hotel Vela in Gulfport, Siren Social Club brings a lush enclave with vibes that are a little loud and a lot of fun with a dangerously sexy twist.
“We opened up one end of the dining room so you can see into the kitchen,” Chef Austin Sumrall said. “You can sit at one of the four barstools at our chef’s counter and actually interact with the kitchen while they’re cooking, so it’s definitely a unique experience.”
Tresse Sumrall is the mastermind behind the design aesthetics, which features lots of poison pink and fern green shades peppered throughout the bar and restaurant. The design spirit was inspired by Sirens in Greek mythology, who were portrayed as extremely sexy and quite dangerous.
“She pinned the look and feel down and maximized the vibe with some really cool vintage artwork,” he said, adding his wife also had a hand in the boutique hotel interior design, which is more of a stylish coastal retreat beaming with the work of local artists. “We joke all the time that this is her restaurant,” he said with a laugh.
