Band brings 25th Anniversary Tour to Tunica on Nov. 14
TUNICA — The Blackberry Smoke 25th Anniversary
Tour comes to Horseshoe Tunica on Saturday, Nov. 14, at
7:30 p.m.
Blackberry Smoke is an American Southern rock band
formed in Atlanta, Georgia, around 2000-2001. Fronted by
singer-guitarist Charlie Starr, the group includes guitarist
Paul Jackson, bassist Richard Turner, and keyboardist
Brandon Still. Drummer Brit Turner, Richard’s brother and
a co-founder, passed away in 2024.
They began after Starr and the Turner brothers left
another Atlanta act. Starr recruited Jackson for his guitar
work and high harmonies. The band honed a blend of
Southern rock, country, blues, and gospel in local bars, then
opened for Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, and Zac Brown Band.
Their 2003 debut was Bad Luck Ain’t No Crime.
Breakthrough came with 2012’s The Whippoorwill, featuring
staples “One Horse Town” and “Ain’t Much Left of Me.”
Holding All the Roses (2015) and Like an Arrow (2016)
both reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Albums chart.
Blackberry Smoke built their reputation as live
performers through constant touring, often more than 200
shows a year across the U.S., Europe, Australia, and South

albums turned them into modern torchbearers of classic
Southern rock with a loyal global following.

& Casino on Saturday, Nov. 14.
Formed in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1974, 38 Special fused
Southern rock grit with radio-ready arena hooks. Hits such
as “Hold On Loosely,” “Caught Up in You,” “If I’d Been the
One,” “Back Where You Belong,” “Rockin’ into the Night,”
and the ballad “Second Chance” drove multi-platinum albums
and roughly 20 million records sold, making the band a staple
of 1980s AOR and classic-rock radio.
In 2026 the lineup is Don Barnes (founding guitarist-
vocalist), Bobby Capps (keyboards and vocals since 1991),
Gary Moffatt (drums since 1996), Barry Dunaway (bass since
2014), and Jerry Riggs (guitar since 2019). Co-founder Donnie
Van Zant retired in 2013; Barnes is the last original member
still onstage.
Within Southern rock the group sits beside Lynyrd Skynyrd
yet is distinguished by tighter pop choruses. Live, they remain
a working road band—often near 100 dates a year—on a 50th-

anniversary “Milestone” tour that pairs them with Skynyrd,
Kansas, Foreigner, and others. Reviews still praise high energy,
faithful hits, and Barnes’s durable voice.
The 2025 album Milestone, the bands first studio record in
more than two decades, underscored that they treat the stage as
unfinished business rather than a nostalgia circuit.
