a table outside and cover it with a favorite table cloth or a blanket from the back of the couch. Or, better yet, take the blanket out in the yard and have a picnic – an elegant picnic – but actually sit on the grass.
Try something new. Charcuterie (pronounced shar-koo-tuh-ree) boards are all the rage. Charcuterie is the French way of saying, pile up a bunch of deli meats and cheeses, throw in some fruits, nuts, olives, and crackers, and open a bottle of wine! Any assembly of these yummy treats will work, fancy board or not.
Open the good stu you’ve been saving for a special time, the pickles
and relishes you thought you paid too much for or the bottle of bourbon someone gave you that was too good for every day. Use the good glasses, the good napkins, and those cute little plates you weren’t sure you should keep when you started cleaning out the closets weeks ago.
Invite the neighbors over. Suggest a “real” visit with family, not a virtual one. Gather a small group. Tell stories about the relatives – the funny ones, the famous ones, and the ones you miss. Share memories of the summers of your youth and your dreams for the ones ahead.
Any Mississippian worth their weight in oysters knows about comeback sauce. It’s that orange delicacy good on anything from seafood to saltines. It’s “so good you will come back for more.” Well, it’s time to get back to celebrating life. It might be a good idea to throw some comeback sauce on that charcuterie board. ‘Cause even if you are not from Mississippi, you know a good comeback when you experience it.
