COAST NOTE
sara Reymond’s creative and organizational skills were put to test at the rst of the year when she did a total makeover of her shop in just two weeks.
“My last day open was December 31. On January 1 we gutted the entire store, and starting January 3, we renovated the boutique from the ground up. It went from an empty space to a brand new space,” she said.
Sara Kate Boutique, located in Sazerac Square in Pass Christian, reopened to an enthusiastic reception in mid-January. Reymond said she loves her new space.
“I’ve been designing and laying it out in my head and on paper. It was months of organizing and researching and hundreds of hours on the computer,” she said.
A planner at heart, Raymond had the labor, ooring, paint and xtures – down to the chandeliers and art – in-house and ready to install.
She knew she needed a back storage room and an o ce if she was going to expand her business. The 600-square-foot space is now light and airy with slimline racks in gold. She did not return any of her 2020 merchandise, opting instead to have her fresh spring line of merchandise on display when she reopened.
“It was literally like I opened a brand new store,” she explained.
This is her 10th year to own Sara Kate Boutique, which is a combination of her name and her daughter Kate’s. Kate, 19,
is a freshman at the University of Mississippi and is becoming more involved in the boutique. Reymond also has a 20-year-old son, Walker, who is a junior at Millsaps College.
Reymond majored in fashion merchandising at the University of Mississippi. She opened her rst retail business, the Sun Porch, in Bay St. Louis in the late 1990s, but sold it when she started her family. In 2007, she moved from Diamondhead to Pass Christian where she met her husband, Charlie. She and Charlie both live and own businesses in Pass Christian and are proud community supporters.
Surprisingly, Reymond found 2020“to be a great year for her boutique and as a result, was able to do the extensive renovation.
