Terry Powell
Meet Terry Powell. Although Terry Powell says, “I enjoy
coming to work everyday. I like the challenge, but I’d rather be shing,” he’s been dedicated to retail business since he began his career with Gayfer’s Department Store in 1981. In fact, what he likes best about his job as manager of Edgewater Mall is that there’s something di erent every day.
He came to South Mississippi from Pensacola, Florida, when he transferred with Gayfers. “I fell in love with the place. It’s a small town community with lots of entertainment and fun and plenty of water to sh in,” he says.
Powell especially likes the military community and how the Coast supports them along with tourism and the small town feel.
As for interesting facts: he will not eat eggs or wear sandals; he insists on wearing a size bigger shirt than needed; and he and his wife were born days apart in the same hospital.
His personal motto includes the mantra, “Don’t strive to make your presence noticed, just make your absence felt.”
He and his wife of 31 years, Medin, are the parents of two sons, Austin and Taylor, both graduates of Mississippi State.
