Dockside Deli has many special reasons to return again and again
GULFPORT — I have a riddle for you. How can you go to the same restaurant once a week, possibly more, and never tire of the food? It’s easy — if the restaurant has a weekly special that is so good, you want to return again and again.
That restaurant is Dockside Deli, a casual, comfortable spot with friendly servers and delicious food. Located at Island View Casino Resort’s south-side Beach View Casino, the restaurant is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It features a wrap-around outdoor
deck and large windows that offer diners a great view of the Gulf of Mexico during the day and colorful sunsets at night. Sandwiches (hot and deli style), flatbreads, salads and soups are mainstays on the menu.
There are also daily specials and a weekly special designed by room chef Calvin Lipe, who lets his culinary creativity flow. For many diners, the chef’s creations have them coming back once, twice a week and more.
Lipe said the weekly specials started a couple of years ago and the response was so positive. “Everyone loved it and said to continue doing it. We go seasonal and play around with what’soutthereatthetime,”the chef said, adding he takes input from everyone, including servers and all back-of-house help. He even gets suggestions from

On a recent February night, the weekly special was the Baja birria burrito — a large flour tortilla overstuffed with beef slow-braised with guajillo and arbol chiles, then topped
with cilantro, onions, a purple cabbage and black bean slaw and pepper jack cheese. The flavor was poppin’ with the spicy chiles and cool slaw. In a nod to a French dip, the burrito came with a cup of beef consomme with cilantro and
