David Yount wins WSOP Circuit Main Event last month at Horseshoe Tunica
TUNICA — The World Series of Poker (WSOP), the world’s most prestigious brand in poker, awarded more than $1.8 million during its most recent Circuit tour stop at Horseshoe Tunica, which ran January 22 to February 2. During the 12-day poker festival, Maurice Hawkins, the all-time leader in WSOP Circuit titles, extended his own lead by winning two events and now lays claim to 23 WSOP trophy rings.
Hawkins made headlines early on in
his Tunica stint, winning the second event of the series — the $400 buy-in Mini Main — for $35,146 and his 22nd WSOP ring. He then went on to land his 23rd ring by taking down the very last event of the series, the $400 buy-in Double Stack Closer, cashing an additional $10,473.
David Yount, a recreational poker player from the western suburbs of St. Louis, won the largest event of the series, the Main Event, which began January 30 and attracted 433
entrants. The now 61-year-old earned a massive cash prize of $132,570, a debut WSOP trophy ring, and a $5,000 package to WSOP Paradise in The Bahamas for his triumph.
“I’ve played some tournaments in the past, but not very often live. This was, for some reason, very comfortable,” Yount told PokerOrg following his big win. “I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because it was my birthday, I don’t know what it was. It was a freeroll; it just felt like it was easy.” plays poker at his home in Dardenne
