IN BUSINESS
At Canon Hospice we are proud to offer the hospice specialist program. These specialists are in the community daily advocating and educating our community on hospice. When a family elects hospice, the specialist will set an appointment to explain the program to our families. Canon Hospice is one of the few hospice companies on the Gulf Coast providing both home-based and dedicated in-patient units. Their non-profit affiliate,
The Akula Foundation, provides services to indigent patients and sponsors a number of programs and community based initiatives to educate the public on end-of-life decisions, hospice care, and bereavement.
Mollie Nunez is a Hospice Specialist
providing weekend support and outreach to Hospitals and Healthcare Providers. She is
a vital asset to processing new patients after regular business hours. Mollie says, “Hospice outreach can be difficult, seeing families when they are in desperate need of comfort, by doing this work, I’ve found a strength I didn’t know I had. What a rewarding job.”
Hospice Specialist Beth Seymour explains her view of what she does as this, “ Hospice is more than a paycheck to me, it’s a purpose...a type of ministry. Having my own personal experience with hospice has given me great insight on how to inform the patient and their loved ones and to go that extra mile when it comes to comfort measures. The three “L’s”
come in to play when it comes to caring for someone at the end of their life and that’s: 1. LISTEN to the needs and wants of the patient and/or family 2. LOVE them through it all and lastly 3. LET THEM GO peacefully and prayerfully. Understanding that hospice is a gift is very important to me and that’s what I try to relay to all of my families.”
Rev. Jan Goff is our spiritual support and our bereavement counselor. Jan has been with Canon for 12 years. Jan’s commitment to God and her families she serves is very rare. “The opportunity to pray with families in need of comfort is what gives meaning to what I do. What a blessing it is to share these moments with them,” says Rev. Jan.
