GROUND ZER HURRICANE MUSEUM
The only place dedicated to telling Mississippi’s Katrina story

Little was left standing in Waveland after Hurricane Katrina, especially in the area south of the railroad tracks where homes, businesses and municipal buildings stood. After taking a direct hit from
the storm’s landfall, Waveland became known as
Ground Zero.
During the city’s long rebuilding process, which continues
to this day, the idea for the Ground Zero Hurricane
Museum was put into motion by founders LiLi Stahler Murphy and Basil Kennedy to commemorate the undeniable resilience of its residents.
The historic Waveland School building, now the Civic Center, houses the museum which originally featured photography exhibits and interactive displays created with
