bun,” and he’s not wrong – the toasted sourdough bun is always soft and sweet, a perfect pairing for any of Mugshots’ original or specialty burgers.
While I’m not a huge fan of onions, I can say that the onion ring was a great choice when designing Cli ’s Comeback Burger. I’m a sauce gal, and the fried batter of the onion ring really grabs onto the comeback sauce. There’s nothing more sad than watching all of your condiments slide o your burger after the rst bite. No issues here!
The burger comes with a side of fries, which is honestly my favorite way to enjoy comeback sauce. If you’re usually a ketchup and fries person, give comeback sauce a try – you won’t regret it!
Next on the chopping block, the Comeback Gyro. Your typical gyro is lled with a lamb and beef mixture, but this one swaps that out for ground beef, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, onion, bacon and comeback sauce. Noticing some similarities here? I did too. The key di erence is that the gyro comes wrapped in a handy-dandy pita.
I really enjoyed the gyro version of this sandwich. There are fewer ingredients – it’s lacking the onion ring and tomato – but I don’t think it detracts from the experience in any way. If anything, I think the comeback sauce shines a little brighter with this one, but both were excellent. The gyros are usually served with a side of fries, but I opted for pita and hummus because two orders of fries are a lot, even if you’re sharing with coworkers.
Glory Bound has eight avors of craft hummus and all are delicious. Despite the fact that I can’t stand cilantro, the jalapeño-cilantro hummus is my favorite! I can’t taste the cilantro at all, but I’m sure it’s in there somewhere. Other standouts are the
Mediterranean olive and roasted red pepper avors.
It all comes down to personal preference, but ultimately I would pick the Comeback Gyro if I were to order one of the two again. I liked the creative use of comeback sauce
in a non-traditional way, and I felt like the sandwich was all about the sauce! However, you can’t go wrong with either pick. After all, good food is good food.
Editor’s Note: When writing this story, restaurants were still only o ering to-go options, so just keep that in mind when you look at these pictures. I’m testing these sandwiches after a dramatic car ride from each restaurant to our o ce, but all things considered I would say that they both held up really well! We plated them ourselves because who wants to see a sandwich in a to-go container? Not me.
