A fter closing their dining rooms for over a month, Coast restaurants are beginning to safely navigate a new dining experience as they began strategically opening their doors to patrons on May 7. Following the
Governor’s Stay-at-Home Order issued on April 1, most restaurants continued to o er curbside and delivery service to customers amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Shaggy’s Corporate Chef Scott Duplantis greeted diners with a new service style on May 8, including a host stand downstairs where drink and appetizer orders are taken before guests are seated in the dining room. “Our dining room has been spaced to 50 percent; however, with the amount of outside dining we have available and the call-in orders, we have been staying busy,” he said.
Shaggy’s has sanitizing stations throughout their restaurants for guests and employees, and all sta wear masks and gloves. Restaurant sta cleans all areas of the restaurants every two hours, and a third-party company sanitizes the properties from top to bottom daily. “It’s a lot more work, but well worth the e ort and costs to ensure the safety of our sta and guests,” Duplantis said.
Scranton’s in Pascagoula continues to o er curbside service and delivery and has opened an outdoor dining area for guests. As
of May 11, the indoor dining room had not reopened. “We have not scheduled our dining room reopening yet,” said Scranton’s owner manager Richard Chenoweth. “We are waiting until we feel the time is right.”
When doors re-open, they will o er limited service in the Engine Room only, with customers being able to order their meals at a central location. Chenoweth said plans are also in the works to convert one of the dining rooms into a market, o ering pre-prepared foods, including catering items, carry and prepare at home meal kits, bulk foods, specialty items, breads, meats, sauces and dressings.
