Dr. Richard Gilbrech, director of John C. Stennis Space Center, updated area leaders during a two-state com- munity briefing hosted by Partners for Stennis & Michoud last month at Northshore Harbor Center in Slidell. More than 130 attendees also heard updates from Todd May, director of George C. Marshall Space Flight Cen- ter, which oversees the Michoud As- sembly Facility in New Orleans and Dr. Bill Burnett, technical director of the Naval Meteorology and Oceanog- raphy Command at Stennis.
Partners for Stennis & Michoud Chairman, Michael McDaniel of Aero- jet Rocketdyne, provided an update
on the re-branding of the Partners or- ganization to communicate its mission to advance business in Mississippi
and Louisiana at these two NASA as- sets. The goals of the re-branding is
to build awareness of the two federal sites as regional employers; market
the regional aerospace and defense technology corridor to attract private sector investments and new residential home sales; and build a strong alliance between the two states to advocate for regional workforce development.
“We want decision makers and
interested citizens to know and un- derstand the value and importance
of these two NASA assets and what
it means to all of us as a significant source of employment and income for this region,” said McDaniel.
Partners for Stennis & Michoud is a coalition of Mississippi and Louisiana citizens and businesses. Members of the non-profit organization are volunteer representatives from businesses, cham- bers of commerce, economic development agencies, educational institutions, local governments, community groups and private citizens.
