COASTNOTES
story by Lynn Lofton
Dress in your best 1930s-period costume (or cocktail attire) and bring your keenest sleuthing skills to Murder on the Ohr-ient Express May 3 at the Pass Christian home of Jeanne Hines. This murder mystery dinner party begins at 6 p.m. and is a fundraiser for the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art.
The mystery game will be akin to the book and film Murder on the Orient Express. Simply Seafood & Catering and Fatsumo Sushi will provide the food. There will also be a silent auction and raffle for a dozen dinner packages to coastal fine dining restaurants.
“The theme was chosen in part due to the extensive collection of Asian-inspired art and decor at the home of our hostess, Jeanne Hines,” event chairman Paula April said. “Six suspects and one victim will be on hand as guests are enticed to discover the identity of the victim and his or her killer!”
April added that funds generated from this event will support the museum’s ongoing mission to serve all members of the Gulf Coast community. “The museum has a varied and prolific schedule of exhibits and educational opportunities for children and adults of all ages during the upcoming year.”

The Pink Rooster/Gallery Garbo ushered in spring with its inaugural plein air painting competition. While complimenting the annual Spring Arts Festival of Ocean Springs, the event also promoted the spectacular scenic venue of the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
“The event’s purpose is to honor artists and
their dedication to their work,” gallery owner and competition organizer Linda Rosetti said. “I hope to make this an annual affair that grows in participation each year.”
She says the event is open to artists near and far, and judges are given two weeks to make their decisions. Paintings are exhibited inside The Pink Rooster Art, Education and Exhibit Center where presentations are made when judging is completed.
“A ceremony of fun, food and festivities comprises the finale,” Rosetti added. “We think this competition fits perfectly with our town, which is known as an arts community.”
The Spring Arts Festival: Herb, Garden & Art event is held in March each year in downtown Ocean Springs.
