There is a new Vietnamese restaurant on the Coast that is making pretty big waves amongst the aficionados of this world class cuisine. Kien Giang offers amazing food, truly friendly service, and all in a family style atmosphere.
If you are new to Vietnamese
food ways, start with pho. It is the internationally acclaimed clear broth beef and rice noodle soup that comes from the northern part of the country. I always think of super chef Anthony Bourdain when I sit down in front of
a bowl of hot pho, what he called “a steaming bowl of goodness.” Pho just may be the best comfort food in the world. Served steaming hot, the broth, which takes at least eight hours to make, is fragrant with fresh herbs and
Asian seasonings and is nothing short
of delightful. The rice noodles are filling and nutritious, and the thin slices of beef are tender. Make sure to doctor your pho with Thai basil, a slice or two of jalapeno, a squeeze of lime and a handful of bean sprouts.
Another way to start — one of
my favorites in fact — is to order a sampling of appetizers. The spring rolls and eggs rolls will not be a surprise to you, but the Asian style chicken wings just might become an all time favorite. Another suggestion is the shrimp tempura. It’s lovely shrimp deep fried in tempura batter so they are crunchy and a pure delight. Add a dash of the sweet and spicy chili sauce, and I think you will be very happy indeed.
