the list for goodness. A dozen would be a huge meal for one, but a great appetizer for a small group.
If you are in the mood for seafood, try the fried shrimp. Doe’s has a philosophy of keeping things simple, and the fried shrimp are a good example. Salt and pepper are the only seasoning, and the shrimp are fried to be crispy, and delicious, never overcooked. The cocktail sauce is one of the best I have ever had. The house made crab cakes and an absolute delicious remoulade sauce are also on the must-try list.
If you are in a Delta kind of mood, order the fried catfish or fried chicken, both Delta specialties. The original Doe’s menu offers meatballs and spaghetti, but in a nod to the Coast this menu offers shrimp and spaghetti.
Whatever you do, don’t forget about the steak. There are six options, but I manned up to the porterhouse, along with sides of mushrooms and caramelized onions, and it was perfect. If you are a beef eater, this is for you. If there is any room left at all, go for a slice of peanut butter pie; it’s the perfect ending.
When you’re in the mood for great food, a relaxed atmosphere, and a little Delta charm, head to Doe’s Eat Place. You are going to love it!
