Doe’s Eat Place in Greenville is one of the Delta’s most famous restaurants. It was a juke joint in its earliest days, sold tamales out the back door, and grilled its first steak for hungry railroad workers. Even to this day you enter the restaurant through the kitchen door, and the recipes have hardly changed at all. But now there is a Biloxi location, and if you are in the mood for a little Delta jive and great food, check this place out.
This Doe’s is classy, but with a Delta drawl. The interior is nothing short of elegant, subdued colors and lighting, but the cast iron skillets and rolling pins on the walls let you know this isn’t a fancy-pancy place that requires a tie to get in. Come in shorts, and feel free to
pick that steak bone up and get every last bite. But no matter how you come attired, come for seriously good food. In fact, Doe’s in Greenville earned a James Beard award a few years ago, and that’s an honor few restaurants receive.
Doe’s is famous for steaks, and the 1200-degree broiler they use makes sure the steaks come out perfect. You will also notice that the steaks are extra juicy. The trick they use is to collect the juices as the steaks roast and garnish the steak with them just before it comes to your table. Pretty cool, right?
The menu has a few other sensations you should not miss. Start with a dozen Delta tamales and a side of house made chili. The Mississippi Delta is famous for tamales, and Doe’s is at the top of
