that the guest house was delivered on wheels and placed on the foundation that he prepared.
The two acres surrounding the del Cids home and tiny house are an
informative and pleasant lesson in botany. There's an abundance of trees, plants, owering shrubs, native plants and
whimsical vignettes. Some plants such as the Indian pipes, acanthus and indigo are not usually found in residential gardens. Both del Cids are avid gardeners and like to live in harmony with the world around them. Donald says Dianne caresses plants like some people caress pets.
The 400 camellia bushes and countless azaleas have grown really tall through the years putting the blooms above eye level. There are trails — many outlined with
partially buried wine bottles and others with oyster shells — with lush foliage and surprises around every corner. Dianne's dad's silver co ee pot is used as garden art. Her grandmother's wrought iron set of chairs, a colorful directional sign
of “all the places we like to go” and a display of gifts from
the sea are delightful
surprises.
The couple says their large garden is a
work in progress
but they've
already created
a beautiful hideaway that brings joy to them and all who visit.
