“Dockside Fresh” is more than just a slogan at Island View Casino Resort’s Dockside Deli. It’s the way room chef Calvin Lipe and his team operates, keeping guests coming back for more. Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Dockside Deli is located in Island View’s south-side Beach Casino and features a wrap-around outdoor deck and large windows that offer diners a great view of the Gulf of Mexico during the day and colorful sunsets at night.
Lipe, along with restaurant manager Carrie Bounds-Hitchings, is proud of the food that comes out of the kitchen, where just about everything – including the crispy, crunchy potato chips – is prepared in house. The menu is full of Southern favorites, seafood dishes and plenty of comfort food, and there are reasonably priced daily specials that are real winners. “We make food to please,” Lipe said. Calling it an “eclectic restaurant”
with its varied menu, Lipe added Dockside has a deli feel to it, especially with its mile-high sandwiches, such
as the roasted turkey, the club with
the tasty twist of added pimento cheese, and the Reuben, which has corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and thousand island dressing on marbled rye. Each bite is mouthful of tasty meats and cheeses, homemade dressings and sauces, and freshly made breads and buns.
Favorites include the muffuletta with ham, salami, mortadella, Swiss cheese and olive salad served on Gambino’s sesame seed bread; the fried shrimp po-boy pressed with lettuce, tomato and pickle; and the Southern Cobb salad with fried chicken, diced eggs, tomatoes, cucumber and bacon. The Dockside Deli hamburger, served on
a toasted roll with lettuce, tomato, pickles and onion, is popular at the restaurant, and is best paired with hot and crispy fries.
