PATIO 44
story and photos by Julian Brunt
The new Patio 44 in Biloxi is huge! In fact, it’s ten thousand square feet huge and is beautifully appointed. Walk in the front doors and you are drawn to the right where a fifty-seat bar and glass wine cellar await you. Keep walking and you’ll find a great covered patio with a gas-fired fountain. Talk about
a cool place to hang out; it’s perfect to meet friends or watch the big game.
The dining area has about thirty
tables, and is tastefully decorated, while remaining comfortable. But the true highlight of Patio 44 appears when you pick up the eleven-by-seventeen-inch menu. It’s loaded with innovative ideas, such as the best selling hot pecan pan-fried chicken that’s served with caramelized onions and roasted garlic
mashed potatoes. If you are really hungry, or just in need of a little culinary comfort, this dish is for you.
But the magic doesn’t stop with the fried chicken. Check out the super- sized Gulf seafood platter that includes fried shrimp, U.S. farm raised catfish, fried oysters, a soft-shell crab, and
fried crawfish tails. This is one of the largest seafood plates I have ever seen. If you are not in the mood for seafood, check out the slow braised short rib. It’s served with tender fingerling potatoes and will set you right if you are in the mood for beef.
If small plates are more what you’re thinking of, the debris fries might be a good place to start. This appetizer is large enough to share and is
