GIVING BACK

Caring for a rescue dog is no easy task. Even experienced rescuers and foster parents can feel overwhelmed caring for multiple dogs at once. But when all is said and done, the work put in to help pups find fur-ever homes is always worth it.
Just ask Terry Maguire, executive director of the Tired Dog Rescue, a foster-based non-profit organization in Gulfport. The rescue offers foster homes and adoption opportunities for dogs that likely wouldn’t make it in a shelter.
Maguire started Tired Dog Rescue in 2008 when she saw a cocker spaniel in a pet store. While searching online for information about the breed, she came across information on rescue organizations and decided to start Tired
Dog Rescue, noting dogs are tired of being abused and
neglected.
The group focuses on cocker spaniels and miniature
schnauzers but will take in other smaller breeds. The dogs are often older and might be deaf, blind, or heart-worm positive. One of the rescue’s mottos is that all dogs deserve a loving home regardless of age, medical conditions, or disabilities.
The rescue relies completely on donations and money received through fundraisers and is a sanctuary for healing, refreshment, and love. The pups might arrive at the rescue exhausted, but they leave for new homes recharged, adored, and cherished.
