There are no limitations for Shine Theater, a faith-based acting troupe with a love for both show business and Our Heavenly Father.
“Anyone can be a part of Shine Theater,” said founder Debbie Waltman. “Anyone, it doesn’t matter who you are. Our faith-based status drives our content, but we encourage anyone who wants a positive influence in their life to join us. We’ll do some great theater work together.”
The group’s goal is to blend religious-based entertainment with the transformative nature of theater. Waltman created the idea when she noticed theatrical arts were missing in many churches along the Gulf Coast. She believes the move will help develop a more inclusive environment for everyone who enjoys theatrical stage productions and shows take centre stage at the Mary C O’Keefe Cultural Center in Ocean Springs.
And the lineup is extraordinary for a small and upcoming theater company. The group will shine this month with “Elf the Musical Jr.” on December 6, 7, & 8. Next up, the spotlight will be on “The Curious Savage” in February followed by “Seussical Kids” and “Seussical Jr.” both in April, and “The Sound of Music” in June.
While actors are essential to successful performances, the group prioritizes
all roles, whether that be on or off the stage. “We cannot function without volunteers backstage or out in the front of the house,” she said. “No matter what the show is, it takes all of us.”
Visit the Shine Theater’s Facebook page for more information about shows, auditions, or how to volunteer.
