CELEBRATES35YEARS story by Kelsey Sunderman-Foster photo courtesy of Our Daily Bread
Our Daily Bread, a Christian food pantry and soup kitchen located in Pascagoula, Mississippi, celebrates 35 years of servitude this month. Since 1982, the organization has been feeding those in need with the help of countless volunteers and through the donations they receive.
The organization’s original building was donated to Our Daily Bread by a local restaurant owner, but foundation issues later caused the group to have to move. The city of Pascagoula bought their building from them, allowing Our Daily Bread to purchase their current building on Old Mobile Avenue.
“The amount we received from the city and the amount for which we purchased the new location
were almost the same amount,” said Frank Spiers, who has been a board member for 17 years. “The new building was kindly sold to us for only the amount owed by the previous owner on the mortgage. We were truly blessed.”
From that initial kindness,
Our Daily Bread was given the platform they needed to reach the community. With the help of its volunteers, Our Daily Bread is able to feed 100 people per day. The non-profit organization accepts monetary donations, food items, and volunteer service.
