HOME pumpkin spice and everything nice
A delicate shade of lavender paint covers the walls of the dining room where the exposed brick chimney and crystal chandelier are focal points. An antique tufted-back sofa provides a spot for relaxing in this spacious room.
The impressive kitchen, which
is open to the dining room, was designed by Boles, who says she had no experience in this realm. “It was a labor of love,” she said.
The cabinets were painted a dark blue, then glazed before pewter knobs were added. Open spaces above the cabinets are filled with eye-catching displays. A chandelier adds a bit of elegance, and an antique oak table occupies the center of the room, serving as an island for food prepping and as the perfect spot for Boles and her fiance, Jeff Whitten, to share a meal. “We both like to cook and we do it together,” she says.
The master bedroom and bath complete the downstairs. The bedroom has a soothing gray and white color scheme that’s tempered with some vintage furniture pieces. The original bathroom was converted into a large shower. The rest of the bathroom was fashioned from a former closet and features a soaking tube with silver claw feet.
The upstairs landing is an homage
to the University of Alabama where Whitten played football. Now a high school science teacher, he can revel in this world of red and gray and memorabilia. A spare bedroom and bath are also in the upstairs space.
Boles, who is the regional sales director for St. Joseph Hospice, has beautifully married the charm of
a home from another era with the comfort and necessities of everyday living. All dressed for Thanksgiving, there are gorgeous seasonal displays created by her friend, Angel Desporte Harrelson, and pumpkins from Courtney Farms in Ocean Springs.
I like to tie in vintage and antique pieces I inherited with contemporary touches.
