From sculptural art to stoneware and typography, last year’s winners brought their all to the 2018 Peter Anderson Arts & Crafts Festival. While the mediums varied, the level of talent did not.
The 2018 Best of Show Award went to Helene Fielder of Booneville, Mississippi, for her unique sculptural art in clay. The Peter Anderson Legacy Award was presented
to Steve Burrow of Gulf Shores, Alabama, for his stoneware pottery and sculptures. The Award of Excellence was given to Sean
Corner of Wichita, Kansas, for his sculpted three-dimensional faces. The Award for the Creative Arts was given to Candice Alexander of Lake Charles, Louisiana, for her Louisiana and Seafood themed works on canvas and in metal. The Booth Award was presented to Catherine A. Davis of Starkville, Mississippi, for her Southern-style typographical designs.
Fielder was born in Rive de Geir, France, and became a naturalized American citizen at the age of
10. Over the course of her life, her path has led her from Germany to
Slovenia, Arizona, Georgia, Florida, and now to Mississippi.
While she has maintained
a full time studio for the past
18 years, her experience also includes teaching both pottery and silversmithing and working
in marketing, illustration and advertising. She is currently working with hand-building and wheel- thrown techniques, using different colored clay bodies and textures to promote glaze color interest.
“I make lots of teapots, both functional and nonfunctional,” she says. “I find teapots fascinating. They have incredible line and
