TAKES OVER BILOXI TOWN
GREEN OCTOBER 15
story by Lynn Lofton photos courtesy of Bachtoberfest
Just as there’s a bit of coolness in the air, the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra’s Bachtoberfest is back. It will be even bigger this year as it moves the fun to the Biloxi Town Green on October 15 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
“The Coast will come to life with ‘oompah’ music, dancing, games and activities for the kids,” said Dhiana McKaig Skrmetti, executive director of the Symphony. “There’ll be brats and plenty of beer!”
The purpose of this event is to help the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra fund the four Subscription
Series concerts and two School Concerts presented to Mississippi Gulf Coast residents. The Symphony also offers two Sounds by the Sea concerts on Memorial Day weekend in Gulfport and Pascagoula free of charge to the public. All funds raised at Bachtoberfest will go to support the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra and Gulf Coast Symphony Youth Orchestra.
True to the German tradition of Octoberfest, there’ll be brats (sausages) with or without sauerkraut for $5; a pint of beer for $5; and an all-you-can-drink craft beer tasting for $10.
American Girl Fashion show set for Lynn Meadows Discovery Center
story by Lynn Lofton
Lynn Meadows Discovery Center invites girls and their friends and families to experience the American Girl Fashion Show on October 15 at 10 a.m., 2 p.m., and 6 p.m. and October 16 at 12 p.m. and 4 p.m.
“This fun, engaging program showcases historical and contemporary fashions for girls and their dolls,” said Cindy DeFrances, the Center’s executive director. “Proceeds from the event will benefit Lynn Meadows Discovery Center and help to support exhibits and programming for both the museum and the WINGS Performing Arts program.”
Approximately 130 local models will present the fashions, while lively commentary, music, and decorations will create a memorable experience. “Audiences will delight in historical clothing, from daywear to sleepwear to special occasion clothing, that resembles what the popular American Girl characters Kaya, Caroline, Josefina, Addy, Rebecca, Kit, and Julie might have worn,” DeFrances added. “Contemporary Just Like You outfits for older girls and sweet Little Girl fashions for little ones complete the program.”
The event includes refreshments, party favors, a raffle, and door prizes.
