THE BLUE MOON ART PROJECT SHOWCASES
MISSISSIPPI ARTISTS
“Together we are bringing more light to the arts in Mississippi and the entrepreneurship of our economy.”
The Blue Moon art project showcases Mississippi artists and is an important part of the Peter Anderson Arts & Crafts Festival. The winning artwork creatively interprets the Blue Moon brand and is featured on promotional items, signage, billboards and souvenir cups for the following year’s festival. The artist of the winning artwork receives a $2,000 cash prize, and the winner of the People’s Choice award receives $500. Posters of the 2015 winning artwork will be on display throughout the festival this year.
Daniel Gurneck of Gulfport took the 2015 top prize with his “The Art of Good Times” featuring sailboats in the Mississippi Sound. The People’s Choice winner is Rod Hedgecock of Ocean Springs for his piece titled “Better with Friends.”
Gurneck has been painting as long as he can remember and strives for detail and realism.“I always want to do something challenging and different,”
he says.“I like to know that someone besides myself enjoys what I’ve done.”
Retired from Stennis Space Center, he can now paint and draw full time, mostly working in acrylic, pencil, charcoal and ink.
The deadline for entries for the 2016 contest is October 14 at 3 p.m. Winners will be announced at the festival on Sunday, November 6, at 2 p.m.
