“The tears of joy I saw were very impactful.
”
— Clayton Stevens
Face of Stevens Eye Care Clayton Stevens, M.D.
While in training at the University of Mississippi Medi-
cal Center, Clayton Stevens gravitated to ophthalmology as he spent time at the eye clinic. “I got to witness the impact ophthalmologists had on patients’ quality of life. The tears of joy I saw were very impactful. That de nitely drove me into this eld of medicine,” he recalls.
Whether it is through surgery or medical treatment, getting someone through a di cult situation and seeing well is the most rewarding part of his profession.
Born and reared in Long Beach, he felt he had to return to the Coast. “I was away for over 12 years to complete college, medical school, and a residency. Having the opportunity to come back home and help family, friends, and the people who made me into who I am is a dream come true.”
The people, the water, and being close to family are the things he likes best about this area.
He would like readers to know that he is here to stay.
“I would love to be your eye doctor for the next 30+ years,” he a rms.
He and his wife, Mary Ellen, are the parents of three children and are thrilled that they too will grow up in South Mississippi.
Stevens is a fan of all sports, especially Saints football, and is committed to staying up to date with research in eye care.
