With September comes the promise of cooler weather, shorter days, falling leaves, and the transition of work wardrobes to an autumn mode. While there are no hard and fast rules for business dress, there’s one overall career fashion concept that’s well worth consideration. It comes from fashion lifestyle blogger Linda Paige whose primary work wardrobe advice is “Dress to Connect.”
“Dressing to Connect” isn’t a formula. It’s all about presenting yourself in a way that resonates with your target client or customer. What you wear on the job, whatever the job, can attract or detract; it can project or reject; it can silently uplift or deflate professional trust. Whether you wear a uniform, follow a company dress code, dress for an office, or work from home, how you choose to dress everyday dictates how you perform. When you look good, you feel good. When you feel good, you work better!
Regardless of what you wear
on the job, fit matters most. Trust me on this. Is it too tight, too loose, too short, or too long? If so, fix it! Garments that fit well and hang well present well.
While neutral colors are classic standards for business attire, your job may allow for a bit of creativity and personality. If so, go for it by inserting new fall 2025 colors like Italian Plum (a deep purple), Fern (a soft green), Tomato Cream (a warm red), and Scarlet Smile (a deep wine red). A little goes a long way, so think of colorful accessories like statement jewelry, belts, shoes, and scarves. Neutrals with the addition of bolder color are always a winning combination.
