  SHOPPING
   story by Barbara Travis
Everyone loves holiday parties, family gatherings, and the festive fashions we wear to celebrate the season. We also enjoy shopping for just the right outfit for a special holiday occasion. This season, the fashion spotlight shines on statement pieces that sparkle with sequins, rhinestones and metallics combined with plush fabrics like velvet and silky satin accentuated with feathers.
Yet, while we are excited about adding new things to our wardrobe, let us be equally focused on donating still beautiful, functional outerwear pieces in our closets to others who need them much more than we do. Tis the season to give and share our blessings with others.
HOLIDAY COLOR
This year, there’s a fresh approach to traditional
seasonal colors. Holiday red is presented in a richer, more sophisticated and varied palette labeled as crimson, merlot, wine, burgundy, chili, poppy, paprika, or cranberry. Standard Christmas green transitions to the more enticing shades of hunter, olive, chartreuse, and emerald. Regardless of the
name, all these colors pair well with currently trendy neutrals in the brown family like
mocha, chocolate, and bronze. So, be creative—try new color combinations and bring them all to life with high-
shine metallic accessories.
GETTING AND GIVING
Lest we forget, this season is much more about giving than getting. As we all enjoy “getting” what’s new, fun, and fashionable for the holidays, we also need to stop, look, and listen to the needs of others. Our closets are as full as our hearts should be. We all have so much. We all should share.
When donating nice clothes, we not only help others in need but boost our own mood, happiness and sense of community spirit. Helping others makes us feel better about ourselves. When you help someone dress for a job interview, stay warm and comfortable, or feel good about themselves, you give yourself the gift of personal pride. What can possibly be better than that?
