HOME under the gunn
Along with their love of art, the Gunns love antiques and enjoy restoring them as evidenced by many outstanding pieces. These include the unusual glass- front Dutch armoire in the living room and the large linen press and game
table with three-sided chairs in the den. Libby’s fondness for red is reflected with a red leather sofa in the den. A pair of turquoise leather chairs complement the color scheme.
Heart pine flooring is used in some
rooms and with a bit of a twist in the
kitchen where it’s laid diagonally. There’s
a warm glow in this room with the
cherry cabinets and colorful pottery that
includes roosters, a favorite of Libby’s.
The Wolf stove and spaciousness of the
kitchen attest that both Gunns like to cook. There’s an expanse of windows over the sink. “I have a dishwasher but sometimes I wash dishes in the sink just to enjoy the view,” Libby said.
The upstairs bedrooms have access to a balcony overlooking the lovely front view. White rocking chairs are the just-right furniture for the balcony. All the bedrooms and bathrooms showcase the Gunns’ passion for original art, antiques and rich fabrics.
They’re looking forward to hosting the George Ohr lawn gala. “Please join
us and enjoy the sun setting over the Mississippi Sound, marvelous food, unforgettable music by James Patterson and superb wine as well as the art inside the home,” Libby said.
Museum Director Kevin O’Brien couldn’t be happier with the upcoming event. “Libby is such a great addition to our board,” he said. “She and other board members are helping us make the museum a community hot spot. We’re putting the emphasis on the community with various groups and having things such as dance and music at the museum.”
THE TRADITIONAL STYLE HOME was built in 1974 and purchased by Buddy Gunn in
1989. Following Katrina, the Gunns transformed the property with many improvements, including an additional 1,000 square feet of living space.
