LETTER from the editor
It’s the month each year when South Mississippi Living honors the accomplishments of women. The section is called Women in Business but includes women engaged in a wide range of professions too. Each year this section gets bigger, and this year 110 women are presented. The scope and breadth of local women’s endeavors is impressive. We invite readers to peruse these pages and learn what these women have to offer.
In addition to the numerous women’s profiles, there are some informative feature stories in this
section.
I can’t thank you enough for the job you did on the story focusing on Moss Point. That was a great piece! Thank you for all that you did to help us shine!

Thank you. We thoroughly enjoyed the focus on all of the Gulf Coast cities and their Main Streets and Chambers of Commerce in the August issue.

Another remarkable woman, Judy Jones, is a key part of a Healthy Living story about the Bethel Free Clinic in Biloxi. Past the age when many people retire, she’s an enthusiastic leader in health care for the uninsured and under insured. Read how Jones saw a problem and went about fixing it.
In Coast Notes, we have a conversation with retired WLOX news anchor Jeff Lawson. In the People section, there’s a piece about a young man from Pascagoula who has the distinction of being the first Mississippian awarded a German Chancellor Fellowship, one of 50 chosen worldwide. He’s studying economic practices in Germany with the hope of bringing some practical tips back to his home state.
In addition to our regular two restaurant reviews in the Dining section, we have a review of a wine pairing dinner written by food writer and historian, Julian Brunt. I had the pleasure of attending this event too, and I must tell you it was awesome — five courses and five different wines. When you get the opportunity to go to a wine pairing dinner, by all means do it.
In the Home section, come with us on a tour of the beautiful, art-filled home of Libby and Buddy Gunn of Ocean Springs. It will be the scene of a fundraiser for the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art next month.
