DOWNTOWNS new career
Beverly Randle has devoted her life to helping others. But the schedule for a nurse can be challenging, and after long hours on the nightshift, Randle’s husband offered to help her
find something else to do for a living.
“He came to me and said, ‘If I can find you something
else to do would you do it?’ and I told him I would,” Randle recalled. “I didn’t know what that something was going to be.”
Today, Randle and her husband are the proud proprietors of Baywood Commons, a shopping and office complex located at 3880 Vancleave Road in Gautier.
“It was built in the 1980s,” she said. “It was owned by a pharmacist and his wife and they owned it until just before the storm. Then it was sold to a group from Wisconsin. It ended up going on the market for a few years. I went from being a nurse to a commercial land developer. Since we bought it, it’s been our pet.”
Among the changes the Randles implemented were
some landscaping and a new paint job for the complex. “Originally, it was painted a sand color, but we
painted each individual unit a different color. That gives it a much more ‘coastal’ look,” she said.
Baywood Commons contains 11 rental spaces and Randle said the site is completely filled. Among the amenities offered at Baywood Commons are Kuttin’ Up beauty salon, Expert Jewelry Repair, Wonder Nails, Coral Boutique, Just Relax Massage and Therapy, as well as an ice cream parlor and a coffee shop.
“Jan Hays at Baywood Travel is our longest tenant,” Randle said. “The travel agency has been there since the inception of the building.”
Deloris Nettles of Delo’s Heavenly House of Coffee is also a longtime tenant at Baywood Commons. Nettles praised the Randles for their commitment to Baywood Commons.“Beverly and her husband have been very supportive of the business,” Nettles said. “They have also done a lot of things with the buildings that have helped the tenants.”
