On the third day, we boarded the Spindrift and headed off into a stiff wind and rough seas. Though rough, it seemed that the bite had finally turned on when, after trolling for two hours, I was watching a big sail leap as
I fought it to the boat. Watching it clear the water with its iridescent sail fully extended in the air is truly a beautiful sight. Then only 10 minutes after releasing it, I was fighting a second one. Our team went on to catch six more that day. Not the 74 that the Spindrift had released the previous day but better than we had been doing.
The group total for that day was one blue marlin and 35 sails released — more than the previous two days combined. Our trip total was 60 sails and one blue marlin along with a dozen or so mahi mahi. Not
a bad trip.
