DININGGUIDE welcome back
Popular Jourdan River Steamer Re-Opens in Same Location
popular Coast restaurant is back to the delight of former and new diners and proving it hasn’t lost its touch with seafood. Sitting along the picturesque banks of the beautiful Jourdan River is the brand new
Jourdan River Steamer right back at the original spot located in Kiln and only 2 miles North of I-10 at Exit 13. And with the return of the original Mississippi Gulf Coast Steamer are the popular platters — Titanic,
The Poseidon, Black Pearl, SS Minnow and The Bounty which are back for guests to feast upon.
When you visit, you’ll be greeted with a live Maine lobster tank stocked full at the front door. Magic is
worked in the kitchen with dishes such as the Lobster Kadobster (11⁄2 lb live Maine lobster stuffed with crab and shrimp cake, topped with more shrimp and giant crabmeat with sauce over the top); giant sized King Crab Legs almost as big as
an arm; fresh clams and mussels in a wine garlic sauce; and one of the fish specials — beautiful fresh Red Snapper potato incrusted, panned, topped
with a made-from-scratch hollandaise sauce; and giant crabmeat, sided with asparagus and roasted potatoes. The platters for two, four or eight people are over the top.
Hank Plauche’ and his wife Lori, who’s worked with him in the business since 2002, lead a dedicated staff. “We are so proud of our team and what we have pulled off; they are true pros,” he said. “Staff makes the difference in any
business and we are blessed that many of our old staff came back home with our new pros.”
“Our mission and passion is to spoil our guests from the moment they arrive with the highest quality of food and service. If you are looking for FRESH fish, live Maine lobster pulled right out of the tank, JUMBO King Crab the size of an arm, Royal Red Shrimp (the real royal reds from the Gulf of Mexico, not the headless imported), Dungeness Snow Crab, mouth-watering Certified Angus Beef steaks, not your everyday pastas,
freshly shucked Gulf oysters, etc. and of course no fried food...then we are the place for you,” said Lori Plauche’.
After moving to Pass Christian from New Orleans in 1989, Plauche’ and his father, Hester Plauche’ Jr., purchased Roberts Reef Restaurant in Kiln. “It was right on the beautiful banks of the Jourdan River and it was very important that we could get there by boat as we LOVE boating,” he recalls. “We remodeled it and opened it as
the Reef Restaurant. That was on the same spot as we are now. We have had our fair share of catastrophes
