LETTERS to the editor
LETTER from the editor
Welcome to the chock full May 2018 edition of South Mississippi Living. With all the usual sections, plus three special sections, there’s plenty
of variety.
The largest section is the Ultimate Dining Guide where we present 10 pages of restaurant listings that encompass businesses from state line to state line. Although cooking at home
is fine and dandy, who doesn’t enjoy dining in the abundance
of restaurants within the three coastal counties? There is a place to please every palate, craving, occasion and pocketbook. In addition to the lengthy list,
we have restaurant profiles
along with stories about the increasingly popular farm-to- table movement, the importance of the way food looks, and the kitchen tools and spices that food writer/historian Julian Brunt considers the essentials that every home chef should have. Also,
two professional Coast chefs
tell us what it takes to become a chef. Plus, we welcome back the Jourdan River Steamer which recently re-opened.
Going along with the Ultimate
Dining Guide, there’s a recipe for
freezer jam in the Leisure section.
It’s so easy that family members
of all ages can join in the fun. Additionally in this section, don’t miss the piece about the opening of Ocean Adventure at the Institute for Marine Mammals Study in Gulfport. It too is fun for the whole family.
It’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years since the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center opened bringing learning and pleasure to scores of children and parents. We congratulate them in a special section this month.
The third special section is a salute to the Gulf Coast Association of Realtors’ Top Producers awards.
There’s a list of winners and a feature on smart homes and a story about the latest trends in home sales on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Last but definitely not least, I must say this month’s feature home is one of the most unusual homes we’ve ever featured. Thanks to the homeowners for inviting us into their Hancock County home where wildlife reigns.

I personally wanted to thank you and your team for supporting the Taste of South Mississippi fundraiser. The event was a great success and we couldn’t have done it without you!
