The fifth annual Free Flowin’ on the Riverfront will take place on April 14 from noon until 8 p.m. This free music festival is a celebration of the beauty of the Pascagoula River, the last and largest free-flowing river in the U.S., hence the name of the festival.
Free Flowin’ on the Riverfront is put on each year by the City
of Pascagoula and Mainstreet Pascagoula and includes activities such as a classic car show, kayak race, arts and crafts, face painting and other kids’ activities, a fireworks show and, of course, music. This year’s lineup includes Naomi Taylor, Tree-Oh Band and Webb Wilder.
“We will have great music, great food and other local vendors available all day,” said Charlie
Latady, one of the event chairmen.
“Classic cars, and fun activities
for the kids will also highlight this year’s event. It is a family atmosphere with something for everyone. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy the day.”
Free Flowin’ on the Riverfront will take place at Lighthouse Park in Pascagoula.

The Ocean Springs 1699 Weekend of Discovery will take place April 27-29 at Fort Maurepas Park, Beach Boulevard and downtown. Various free events for the whole family are scheduled throughout the weekend.
“The 1699 Weekend of Discovery celebrates the history and discovery of Ocean Springs and is hosted by the 1699 Historical Society,” Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Cynthia Sutton said. “The weekend kicks off with a full-dress presentation and reception, followed by a 5k run/walk,
special mass, boat regatta, children’s pet parade and the colorful, full- dress reenactment of the landing of Monsieur d’Iberville and his party at Fort Maurepas on Front Beach.”
The Fort Maurepas festivities begin at 3 p.m. Saturday with the landing reenactment at 4.
A group of dedicated citizens formed the 1699 Historical Committee to bring attention to and preserve Ocean Springs’ role in the early history of the French territory on the Coast.
The group also built a replica of
Fort Maruepas. It was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina but today the site is home to Fort Maurepas Park.
