FUN EASTER
Facts
The term Easter gets its name from Eastre, the Anglo-Saxon goddess who symbolizes the hare and the egg.
Americans buy more than
700 million marshmallow Peeps during Easter! This makes Peeps the most popular non-chocolate Easter candy.
Americans consume more than
16 million jelly beans during this holiday. That is enough jelly beans to circle the globe not once, not twice, but three times.
76% of people eat the ears on the chocolate bunny first, 5% go for the feet and 4% for the tail.
LETTER from the editor
April is a beautiful month in South Mississippi with pleasant weather, blooming flowers and many things to do that get us outside. There are festivals, art shows and special events across the three counties.
Surely you like this month’s cheerful, upbeat cover as much as we
do. It previews the Kids section, a special section with helpful lists and useful information. Getting in the kitchen with kids is a meaningful time for families. If you shudder at the thought of cooking with little ones, have no fear. Julian Brunt provides some easy, tasty recipes in his story about cooking with kids.

Perhaps the most helpful things in this edition are the lists of private schools and summer camps. The school year doesn’t last much longer and parents are beginning to make plans for summer camps. Our list has options for every age and interest.
Looking for a fun hands-on craft project with your children? It’s a good way for families to spend time together. In the Leisure section, we offer a way to make cute and colorful bird houses out of tin cans.
There’s a story about a Coast character in the People section. It’s Billy DeVille, a casino executive who’s had an interesting and busy life in entertainment.
We always like to support and encourage local artists. We do that this month with a story in the Arts section about Austin Baldwin, a senior and budding artist at St. Martin High School.
It’s time for cobia fishing and Frank Wilem has helpful hints on how to catch ‘em in his story in the Sports & Outdoors section. There’s also a piece about outstanding golfer Diana Punzo, who’s the new girls golf coach at St. Patrick High School.
Gulfport High School Principal Mike Lindsey wrote this month’s Final Say about the school’s outstanding new facilities and programs. Wow, high school has really changed since my days back in the dark ages. Read all about it and be amazed.
