easy to remove, immediately opening up spaces and adding versatility to how interior space can be used. Painting, changing light xtures, and installing new oors are relatively simple. If you have wood oors you love, think about painting a pattern on the oor for some instant grati cation. And don’t forget small details like changing all the dated door knobs!
If you have decided you need more square footage than you currently have, take the time to carefully consider how you will use the extra space. Create the type of space you want, not what you think will sell years from now. Talk to a registered Interior Designer about space planning and how to create an addition that carries your design esthetic seamlessly throughout your house.
Whether you add new space or redo the space you have, there are two places that most home value “experts” (realtors, builders, designers and the like)
will tell you to invest in if you have a robust renovation budget: the kitchen and the bathroom. These two
spots can certainly date a home. Hopefully most of the avocado and gold appliances have disappeared by now – we haven’t seen one on a curb in years.
Newer kitchens include stainless appliances, painted cabinets, solid surface countertops, creative backsplashes, beautiful islands, and fun lighting. The trend in master baths suggest everyone needs two sinks, some potty privacy, a separate tub and shower, large plank tile, and fabulous xtures. We agree that adding a new master bath or a complete kitchen makeover can make the whole house feel new. But if you can’t go all the way, choose options that will t your budget and keep a honey-do list for future projects.
Remember the song, “Love the One You’re With” by Crosby, Stills, & Nash? That’s our theme song this month. Love the home you’re in. Take care of it and make the changes you need to make for you and your family. Don’t worry about who owns the house next or where you might live next. Love where you live now.
