TIPS FOR HANGING ART:
• A linear approach allows a series of same size pictures to be hung either horizontally or vertically.
• A grid approach has a series of pictures that are hung in precise rows and columns to show symmetry.
• A cluster approach allows for different size artworks to be arranged in a loosely de ned space.
• A salon style uses oor-to- ceiling wall-to-wall batch or artworks hung tightly together.
• Shelves can be used to display art and photos.
• Artwork doesn’t always
have to hang – large pieces can lean against a wall.
• One large painting can give a dramatic focal point in a room.

story by Susan Ruddiman
You’ve found that perfect painting for your great room or nally framed family photos, but then what do you do when you are ready to hang them? It’s time for you to tackle that stack of frames and get them out for everyone to enjoy their beauty or memories.
Before starting, Beth Cash, owner of Art Alley in The Pass, recommends clearing the surfaces.
“You’d be surprised at how people throw everything on the dining room table,” she said.
Art displays in the living or dining rooms
have a tendency to be more formal, but Cash has found when it comes to dens or kitchens, people have a tendency to display family photos and use a lot of color. “Be adventurous,” she
suggested.
Ray and Hyla Weiss, owners of My Happy
Place Gallery of Art in Ocean Springs, point out that proper LED lighting is critical to making art pop. Art does not need be be displayed in direct UV light where it eventually could fade the work.
Want more tips? My Happy Place has
a dedicated art blog lled with helpful information and insight. The blog can be found at myhappyplacegallery.blogspot.com and is managed by iBi Marketing Solutions.
While there are several ways to display
art, there is no right or wrong way. “People need to look inside themselves when they are decorating. Everyone has their own individual style,” Cash said.
