As the saying goes, “Not all heroes wear capes.” In fact, there are heroes all around
us. They’re your neighbors, the grocery store cashiers you see every week, or the ones
behind the computer screen of your favorite
organization. WXXV News 25’s Lindsey Goodwin seeks to find the every day heroes in our
community with her franchise segment, Hometown Heroes.

This biweekly piece allows Lindsey to dig deep in her community and highlight those making a difference in the lives
of others no matter how big or small. So far, she’s met the man behind the label of J. Lee’s BBQ Sauce in his effort to help our coastal veterans, the woman capturing the personalities of
our homeless shelter pets through the lens of a camera, those flourishing in Biloxi as they bring their community garden back
to life, and extraordinary Pass Christian Special Needs teacher, among many others.
Learning the stories of our local heroes is something Goodwin says spreads some much needed positivity in our world today. “There are so many negative news stories out there nowadays. A lot of violence, a lot of hate. So I think being able to show
our viewers that there are good things happening around us everyday not only inspires me, but hopefully inspires others to want to do good too.”
What makes the franchise even better for South Mississippi?
There’s never a shortage of stories. Goodwin finds many heroes on social media, receives nominations from viewers, and meets them while she’s out and about each week. “It’s so fun because I never know exactly what’s going to come my way, or how I’ll find a story,” she says. “Most of them are hidden gems not many people know about.”
In 2020, Goodwin expects the Gulf Coast to thrive in heroics and she can’t wait to continue to share your stories. “I’ve found these Hometown Heroes are all very modest and humble in the good work they do. I’m excited to continue to put them all on blast,” she jokes.
If you know someone you consider to be a Hometown Hero, feel free to send Goodwin a message on her professional Facebook, Lindsey Goodwin WXXV 25. Hometown Heroes airs every other Friday at 6 a.m. on NBC and 8 a.m. on FOX. Previously aired Hometown Heroes can also be found on her Facebook page, or at WXXV25. com/hometown-heroes.
