‘Feeling comfortable in your own skin’ is an old saying, but there’s a new place that aims to help men and women do just that. Skin Care Aesthetic Center opened last May 31 with a full complement of skin care, laser, and waxing treatments and massages. The owners are Len DeRouen, M.D., and Jeremy Jernigan, D.C.
“My patients pulled me back into the laser part of practice after my retirement,” DeRouen, who is the center’s medical director, said, “and Jeremy wanted to get into this aspect of the practice.”
DeRouen points out that they’re the only stand- alone laser center that’s non invasive and has the newest state-of-the-art technology in a field of rapidly changing technology. The two medical aestheticians, Logan Green and Courtney Anderson, have additional training that allows them to perform laser treatments, medical grade chemical peels and hydra facials under the supervision of a medical doctor. “They can do more effective treatments than regular aestheticians,” DeRouen said.
The most requested treatments are Brazilian waxing, laser hair removal, hydra facials and derma planing. The derma planing, which is the removal of fine facial hair and the top layer of skin with micro needling,
is the only procedure with down time for patients. “Patients have red skin for just one day,” DeRouen said. “All our treatments have minimal down time and discomfort.”
Green refers to herself as the waxing guru. “That’s because clients say I’m the fastest and cheapest around, which they love because I’m precise and efficient,” she said.
Some treatments are called age management because DeRouen says, “We have to get older but we don’t have to look it. We believe in managing aging skin by preventing and treating. You’re never too young to start taking care of your skin.”
Time and attention are given to developing individual plans. “There’s no cookbook plan here,” DeRouen said. “The plan for every person is multi factorial according to life style and expectations; it’s not one size fits all.”
“Our treatments are not super expensive,” Green said, “and we run monthly specials.”
Mike McKay, M.D., will bring laser surgical procedures to Skin Care Aesthetic Center in the next few months, DeRouen added.
