Let’s start with the praline bacon at Blue Dog Bistro in Ocean Springs. Yes, backstories are important, as are the chefs and staff who create the culinary magic, but we will get to all of that.
The praline bacon is so good that it almost deserves top billing at Blue
Dog Bistro. Chef-owner Joshua Lord could have a menu with nothing but this bacon on it and he would sell it by the ton. Lord uses Wisconsin thick-cut Nueske’s bacon which he glazes in both brown sugar and maple syrup and tops with pecans. It’s one of the small plates served at Blue Dog Bistro and it’s well worth the drive, regardless of where you are located in South Mississippi.
Now that the praline bacon is out of the way, Blue Dog Bistro is Lord’s vision to combine his passion for freshly- prepared food and love of animals. The restaurant is named for his late dog, Blue Bell, a Blue Staffordshire Terrier that died from brain cancer.
Blue Dog Bistro uses fresh and local ingredients to create a menu that offers vegan, vegetarian, keto, paleo and gluten-free offerings. There’s a vegan breakfast that features vegan eggs and plant-based sausage as well as several other items that will fit the modern diet schemes. Blue Dog serves breakfast and lunch and will soon roll out its dinner menu and hours. Not only does the
