LYMPHEDEMA THERAPY ON THE COAST
Lymphedema: chronic swelling caused by a build-up of uid that occurs when the lymphatic system is either faulty or damaged.
CAUSES:
• Lymph node removal for cancer treatment
• Injury to lymphatic vessels due to trauma or infection
• Venous insuf ciency, causing overload of lymphatic vessels • Congenital malformation of lymphatics
GOALS OF LYMPHEDEMA THERAPY:
• Reduce the volume of the affected limb
• Help regain normal external appearance
• Restore range of motion
• Improve quality of life
• Reduce pain
• Increase coping skills by providing support
and sympathy for the psychological impact of
the disease
