Alzheimer’s Mississippi is a non- profit organization that is available
to provide services throughout all
82 counties in the state. They supply invaluable information and education for those dealing with the effects of the disease, including the families and caregivers of those who are affected by it.
“We provide care and support for Mississippians affected by Alzheimer’s disease while advancing statewide research in pursuit of a cure,”
said Kathryn Moran, community outreach coordinator for Alzheimer’s Mississippi.
The organization is dedicated to supporting Mississippi families as they deal with the challenges of dementia. For many, the best source of support is through regular support
group meetings. These meetings offer families the hope and knowledge
that they are not alone in the daily struggles of caring for someone with Alzheimer’s disease, and allow them to build relationships with other caregivers who understand what they are going through. In their support groups led by trained facilitators, families and caregivers are taught new coping strategies and are able
to find comfort and strength in a compassionate environment.
From educational conferences
and programs to support groups, Alzheimer’s Mississippi offers a wide variety of helpful tools. One of Alzheimer’s Mississippi’s programs, Art in Mind, is hosted locally in Biloxi at the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art. “This monthly program is
targeted towards people with early to mid-stage dementia, as well as their caregivers,” said Moran. “Art in Mind offers both social engagement and support through art therapy.”
Alzheimer’s Mississippi is a tax- exempt, nonprofit, donor-supported organization. Their programs and services are made possible through contributions from individuals, businesses and foundations, with all funds raised in Mississippi staying within the state to help Mississippians in need. Alzheimer’s Mississippi also raises awareness and funds for their cause through events such as their Walk4ALZ walk.
