DINING serving up smiles
story and photos by Julian Brunt
n this season of giving, we think of family get-togethers and tables loaded with delicious food, and would hardly think of celebrating any other way. But not everyone is so fortunate. There are people who are hungry on a regular basis. During the holidays, the problem may be worse and may affect more people — not limited to the homeless.
The free kitchens on the Coast do not ask if you are homeless, or in need, or what your income level is. They are just concerned with hunger and they welcome everyone with
open arms. These are friendly places, and you just might be surprised at the conversations you will find while eating food that is the equal of most local restaurants. All the food is not bland, as may be commonly thought. Certainly, these are not gourmet meals, but the food is delicious.
