New hotels bring Vacation Life to Pass Christian
Tourists may think of the casinos when seeking a vacation on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, but a few local businesses are aiming to bring some of that tourism business to Pass Christian.
Thomas Genin is no stranger to
local business. As owner of several restaurants, he knows what it takes to please customers, and he is applying that same mentality to his newest venture, Hotel Whiskey, opening
on Davis Avenue in downtown Pass Christian.
“Everything we have done is first class,” said Genin, describing the 11-room hotel, which includes well- appointed suites and rooms with
fully stocked bars and flat-screen televisions. Hotel Whiskey will also house an upper-end steak restaurant called Whiskey Prime that will
feature USDA Prime steaks and fine wines. Like Genin’s other restaurants, Whiskey Prime will offer only the best,
with nothing frozen or out of the bag. Just around the corner from Hotel
Whiskey will be Hotel Pass Christian, being built by Jordan Nicaud, another local restaurant owner. The 10-
room luxury-suite hotel, opening in early 2017, will be offering all the comforts customers could want, from Tempurpedic beds to hot tubs in
the rooms. Nicaud hopes to “bring back Pass Christian” by using all local vendors, from Pass Christian Soap Company products to room service provided by Bacchus on the Beach. Hotel Pass Christian will have a gym and the Elysian Salon and
Spa, offering massages, manicures, pedicures, and hair services.
Hampton Inn has also broken ground in Pass Christian on a lot at the corner of Market Street and Scenic Drive. The 80-room hotel will be a resort-style property with a custom-designed pool, aiming to attract family vacationers, not just business travelers. The project,
which is just under ten million dollars, will bring thirty to fifty jobs to the area; an opening is planned in the end of 2017.
Amy Rishel, executive director of Pass Christian Main Street, said she hopes these new hotels will bring vacationers and weekenders to Pass Christian and the surrounding towns, “We want Pass Christian to be back on the map as a weekend getaway destination.”
