special events, meaning that the Patriot Guard on the Coast makes an appearance to honor fallen heroes more than six times each month.
The Patriot Guard is well known for attending funerals, but they also show their support for local heroes in other ways. “This year, we attended two missions for World War II veterans who turned 100 years old,” said Bob Harwood, senior ride captain for the Gulf Coast riders. “To celebrate their birthdays we held a ride-by with motorcycles
and had flag lines for them. It was amazing to see the happiness on their faces knowing that so many people took the time to come out and celebrate with them.”
Harwood says it’s the purpose of the Patriot Guard to do good things and appreciate those who have made sacrifices for their country. “It’s such a simple action to honor these men and women and it means so much to their loved ones. For us, it’s the least we can do.”
