LETTER from the editor
Hopefully November isn’t the only time we pause to give thanks, but it is the month with a special day set aside when people all over the country count their blessings. Living in this area, there are many, many things to be thankful for; not the least of which is the plethora of retired and active military personnel who are reminders of patriotism and the sacrifices that have made the U.S. great.
We come to the Gulfport area often and we never knew there was so much to see and do until we got a hold of South Mississippi Living.
Love it!
Can’t wait to come back and check some of the places in your magazine.

You will find two of these patriotic stories in the
Golden Years special section — the Coast Patriot Guards motorcycle group and the profile of Jack Oyster, a WW
II veteran and former prisoner of war who lives at the Armed Forces Retirement Home.
The whole special section is
a tribute to living life to the fullest in the Golden Years.
This area has much to offer those in this time of life, whether retired or still working.

As for giving thanks, kids are not hesitant to answer the question, “What are you thankful for?” Several local children share their thoughts on this subject in the People section.
Also along the Thanksgiving theme, we feature a piece in Healthy Living that poses the question, “Does turkey make you sleepy?” The answer may surprise you.
If you’re looking for the ultimate Thanksgiving centerpiece, this Thankfulness Pumpkin is the perfect solution that will get the entire family involved.
This is a great project for kids as it’s easy and hassle-free. First, have your children paint the pumpkin. When it’s dry, write “what we are thankful for” and decorate it with a drawn autumn wreath or detail. The next step is to let everyone write
on the pumpkin. Finally, attach a burlap or ribbon bow with a hot glue gun.
For our Thankfulness Pumpkin, we took turns writing what we are thankful for, and being part of this great team was surely on the list.
Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at South Mississippi Living.
