> A 1967 Volkswagen truck that Hugo and Doris purchased from California.
Originally from Europe, Hugo has been involved with collectible cars for more than 40 years, starting his career importing and exporting pre- war cars. Through his experience, he has developed a discerning eye and knows what to look for. Many of his cars still have the original paint – quite of feat for antique vehicles.
That being said, Hugo isn’t afraid to leave a deal empty handed. “Sometimes a car will look better in photos than it does in person,” he said. “When we get there and it’s not what we were hoping for we just turn around and head back home, even if we drove 1,000 miles to get there,”
Doris doesn’t mind the long
trips though as they give her an opportunity to do some hardcore antiquing. While she’s had many great finds all over the country, one of her favorites is a bit of a local celebrity. “The pirate women is probably one of my favorites,” she said. “We found her at an auction. She was actually from the old Treasure Bay Casino and somehow managed to survive Katrina.”
Hugo and Doris share a love for old things and are proud of their collection. Unlike some collectors though, the Reverses enjoy their finds outside their personal “museum” as well. “We enjoy cruising around on the beach, going to the White House, or even just going out to lunch,” said Doris. “Where ever we go, people always wave and honk their horns. There’s just something cool about seeing these old cars in real life.”
