“Being involved with the arts and speaking to groups is a way to heal with hope and empowerment for women.”
BREAST CANCER AWARENESS stepping towards a cure
story by Lynn Lofton
When walkers step out at the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event October 22, they’ll be making a positive effort to finish the fight against an illness that affects far too many women. The American Cancer Society (ACS) walk begins at 8 a.m. at the Biloxi Town Green.
The ACS is currently investing $86 million in research to find causes and cures for breast cancer. Even though the breast cancer death rate is down in the United States, there is still work to be done and services to provide for cancer patients.
“Thanks to the support of so many, the American Cancer Society is there for everyone in every community touched by breast cancer,” said Liz Gaulke, ACS community manager of special events, “including those who are currently dealing with a breast cancer diagnosis, those who may face a diagnosis
in the future, and those who may avoid a diagnosis altogether thanks to education and risk reduction.”
